CD Projekt Red has revealed the download size of Cyberpunk 2077’s day one patch. Thanks to this information we now know that the game itself will take up around 35GB of your hard drive space at launch.
Cyberpunk 2077 will obviously feature a huge open world and it does sound like CD Projekt Red’s approach to quality applies to the whole experience. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt had a pretty big day one patch as well, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise either.
how to download cyberpunk patch
In a recent interview with VGC, Miles Tost, Level Designer at CD Projekt Red, revealed that Cyberpunk 2077’s day one patch will weigh in at around 16-20GB. The reason for this is that most of the data is actually contained on the physical discs and this update only brings the new files into your game.
“Yeah, I think the overall download size for a patch – not an installation size, but a patch if you want to call it that way – is going to be on the order of 16-20 GB,” said Tost. “It’s basically [the same as] your base install…most of it is actually on the disc, it’s just [that the files need to be] copied [to your HDD]. That’s also why we’re not using any compression or anything like that.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a very large game, and it needs a lot of space on your hard drive to install.
If you’re planning on picking it up later this week, make sure that you have enough space to install and patch the game before you do. You will likely need around 90GB-100GB of free space to do so, which can be a little hard to come by if your console is nearly full.
The Day One patch for the game is also quite large, weighing in at around 15GB.
Cyberpunk 2077 has no multiplayer component, so you do not need to worry about that taking up a bunch of space on your hard drive. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt had a couple DLC expansion packs, as well as a dedicated multiplayer mode and all that combined with the base game, took around 25GB. This patch includes all the updates and bug fixes that were released since the game’s beta testing phase.
Now that Cyberpunk 2077 is out in the wild, CD Projekt Red will be focusing on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s next expansion pack, Blood and Wine. Here’s hoping they don’t decide to focus on multiplayer for their older game.
If you’re planning to buy Cyberpunk 2077, make sure you have enough storage space on your computer or console.
It looks like the game is going to need between 90GB and 100GB of storage space, so your base install will likely take up around 35-45 GB. This does not include the day one patch that’s also already available for download. If you’re getting the Xbox One X version of Cyberpunk 2077, rest assured that you will still need around 90GB of free space even if you’re playing the game on a 4K TV.
That’s because the Xbox One X version of the game features some exclusive enhancements that require more storage space, namely higher resolution textures. Cyberpunk 2077 is also coming out for the PlayStation 4 and PC. The official CD Projekt Red website says that the game will launch with a 46GB day one patch.
Conclusion:
To sum up, Cyberpunk 2077’s day one patch will weigh around 16-20GB on consoles. This is because the game already comes with most of the files included on the disc. The update only needs to bring in some new data to your system.
