Blocking someone on Tumblr is easy, but there are a few different ways to do it. You can block someone from messaging you, or from following you and seeing your posts. You can also block someone from being able to see your blog at all.
If you just want to ignore someone, you can mute them instead of blocking them. Muting someone means you won’t see their messages, but they can still follow you and see your posts.
METHOD ONE: BLOCKING SOMEONE FROM MESSAGING YOU
If someone is sending you too many messages, or if you just don’t want to talk to them, you can block them from messaging you. They’ll still be able to see your posts and follow you, but they won’t be able to message you.
To block someone from messaging you:
1. Go to the messages page and find the conversation you want to block.
2. Click the three dots in the top-right corner of the conversation.
3. Select “Block” from the drop-down menu.
4. Confirm that you want to block the person by clicking “Block” again.
METHOD TWO: BLOCKING SOMEONE FROM FOLLOWING YOU AND SEEING YOUR POSTS
If someone is following you and you don’t want them to, you can block them. They’ll still be able to see your posts if they’re logged in, but they won’t be able to follow you or message you.
To block someone from following you:
1. Go to the person’s profile page.
2. Click the three dots in the top-right corner of the page.
3. Select “Block” from the drop-down menu.
4. Confirm that you want to block the person by clicking “Block” again.
METHOD THREE: BLOCKING SOMEONE FROM SEEING YOUR BLOG AT ALL
If you don’t want someone to be able to see your blog at all, you can block them. They won’t be able to follow you, message you, or see your posts.
To block someone from seeing your blog:
- 1. Go to the settings page.
- 2. Scroll down to the “Privacy” section and find the “Blocked Tumblrs” heading.
- 3. Enter the URL of the blog you want to block and click “Block.”
- 4. Confirm that you want to block the blog by clicking “Block” again.
METHOD FOUR: MUTING SOMEONE INSTEAD OF BLOCKING THEM
If you just want to ignore someone, you can mute them instead of blocking them. Muting someone means you won’t see their messages, but they can still follow you and see your posts.
To mute someone:
- Go to the messages page and find the conversation you want to mute.
- Click the three dots in the top-right corner of the conversation.
- Select “Mute” from the drop-down menu.
- The conversation will be moved to your muted conversations folder and you won’t see any new messages from the person you muted.

There are a few ways to tell if someone has blocked you on Tumblr.
If you try to message them, you’ll see a message that says “This user has chosen not to receive messages from people they don’t know.”
If you try to follow them, you’ll see a message that says “This user doesn’t want to be followed by people they don’t know.”
If you try to view their blog, you’ll see a message that says “This blog is private.”
You can also try looking at their followers or following list to see if you’re still listed. If you’re not, they’ve probably blocked you.
